What this can mean
Even when taps are closed, toilets, appliances, tanks or outdoor systems may be drawing water. On a shared supply, other occupiers can also affect the reading. Where normal use does not explain the movement, suitable isolation can help distinguish sections.
Useful observations
Describe which fittings were idle and whether appliances or watering equipment could still run. Use only safely accessible readings and keep a clear timeline.
Before taking anything apart
Do not interfere with a water-company meter or operate unfamiliar valves. Supplier-side equipment needs the relevant authority.
How to choose the next step
You can start with the symptoms without diagnosing the pipe. Our mains water leak detection page explains the kind of investigation that may be appropriate. Describe what has changed and share any previous findings so the agreed scope addresses the unresolved problem.
Planning a residential visit
For agreed residential work, the £1,345 package connects specialist investigation with the plumbing repair. It includes detection and tracing, necessary access or excavation, parts and materials, suitable post-repair testing and a Trace & Access report. A 12-month workmanship warranty applies to the repair.
The £100 booking deposit is deducted from the total, leaving £1,245. Applicable tax is included. Decorative and remedial reinstatement, including restoring floors, plaster, paving and other finishes, is excluded. Commercial work is quoted separately. Read the complete package scope before arranging a visit.
