WE FIND LEAKS · 2 MIN READ
Check the reading basis
An estimated bill can change when an actual reading is obtained. Compare the billing dates and readings, and ask the supplier about anything unclear. Also consider occupancy, garden watering and new appliances before treating the increase as unexplained loss.
Consider continuously running fixtures
A toilet or other fitting can use water without producing a puddle. Existing plumbing findings are worth sharing with a leak investigator. Resolving an obvious running fixture may explain the consumption, although further checks can still be needed if loss continues.
Keep evidence for the next conversation
Dated readings, supplier correspondence and repair records provide a useful history. If the evidence points to concealed private pipework, specialist detection can help narrow the source. Ask the water company directly about any leakage assistance or allowance; eligibility and amounts are not something a contractor can promise.
Keep these points in mind
- Compare actual and estimated readings
- Note changes in water use
- Keep supplier and contractor correspondence
This guide provides general preparation information. The right investigation depends on the property, its systems and the evidence available. For active flooding, electrical danger or an unsafe ceiling, seek urgent appropriate help rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
