What the method does
Comparing moisture readings can show how an affected wall or floor differs from the surrounding material. It is a way to organise evidence, particularly where water has spread away from its source. A single high reading is not a complete diagnosis.
Compare patterns, materials and the history
Different surfaces behave differently, and salts or concealed materials can influence an instrument. Readings are interpreted with the visible damage, the timing of symptoms and the plumbing layout. Changes over time may be useful when their measurement conditions are understood.
Where it may be useful
- Recurring patches on walls and ceilings
- Water spreading beneath floors
- Establishing the extent of an affected area
What it cannot establish on its own
Moisture readings alone do not distinguish every plumbing leak from condensation, rain penetration or other sources of damp.
Before the visit
Keep dated photographs and explain whether surfaces have recently been painted, dried or repaired. That background helps make sense of the current pattern.
An investigation, not an equipment checklist
The most useful method is the one that answers the next question about your plumbing. A visit may combine observations and tests, or find that another specialist is needed. We explain the findings and proposed access before the agreed repair. Our package is defined by its scope, not by using every instrument.
